In 1930, during the great depression, a new company named Fisher-Price was having success with its first product line of 16 wooden toys at the American International Toy Fair in New York. These toys were based on children’s book illustrations by one of its founders, Margaret Evens Price. The other three founders consisted of Herman Fisher, a game manufacturer, Irving Price, a retired variety chain store worker, and Helen Schelle, a toy store owner. Fisher-Price’s philosophy was and continues to be one of providing toys with “intrinsic play value”, that are well constructed, and for a good value. Thus, they have become the world’s largest manufacturer of pre-school toys!
