Tips & Ideas for planning a Something Blue Themed Bridal Shower

• Use Victorian Era or French-style metal dress forms around the room. (Don’t place dresses on them, as they await only the bride’s dress after the big day!) Instead drape them in wide satin ribbons in light blue and pink colors. Hang pearl necklaces from each and finish with small, silk flowers that you place at the neck or waist of each form.
• Use pretty ladies’ hatboxes as centerpieces. Open each, leaving the lid partially on the edge of the box and partially touching the table. Use light blue or pink tissue paper in the box as ‘filler.’ Place our helium-filled 18-inch Something Blue balloons atop each, tied to a weight that’s hidden within the tissue paper in the hatbox. Curl long ribbon ‘tails’ at various lengths. Scatter pearl necklaces around the box, with some cascading from the inside of the box, as well.
• Make bridal shower party favors in light blue by using a 6-inch piece of sheer, tulle fabric and blue & pink satin ribbons. Simply fill each square with pink and blue candy-covered almonds, and then secure at the top with a bow.
• Serve a signature ‘Something Blue’ cocktail. Mix together 1-ounce vodka, 2-ounces blue raspberry vodka and 6-ounces lemon-lime soda. Serve over ice in our coordinating Something Blue Bridal Shower cups.
• Ask guests to wear pretty hats to complement the theme.
• In keeping with the boutique ‘feel,’ use white gloves, satin high heels, long silky scarves and long beaded necklaces in the décor. Keep in mind the traditional saying: “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue,” when gathering these items! (Note: Because these items may appear ‘small’ on their own, group some items together or place a large plant or vase near them, to create ‘weight.’)
• To define your space, and in keeping with the ‘boutique feel,’ place dressing mirrors around the room and drape in long beads, gloves and scarves. Place pretty ladies’ hats atop some of the mirrors.
• To block-off unnecessary rooms or spaces, use a tension rod at the top of the doorway and hang pretty fabric from it. This will create the illusion of a dressing room, just beyond the curtain.
• Order (or bake) a cake in the shape of a dress.
• Serve dainty finger sandwiches, blue & pink petit fours, fresh fruit, shortbread cookies and sliced pound cake. Use pretty footed or tiered serving dishes.
• At the end of the shower, save one of the dress forms as a gift for the bride. Set-up the dress form in her home, wearing HER wedding dress, while she is away on her honeymoon. She’ll be delighted to see it, waiting for her when she returns!
